The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is a research university in San Francisco, California, and part of the University of California system. The university, which is dedicated entirely to health sciences, is a major center of medical and biological research and teaching, and is ranked as one of the top universities in the biomedical field in the country and around the world.  UCSF is recognized as one of the world’s greatest research universities, with a collaborative culture focused on understanding, preventing and treating disease.

The diversity of the people of California has been the source of innovative ideas and creative accomplishments throughout the state’s history into the present. Diversity – a defining feature of California’s past, present, and future – refers to the variety of personal experiences, values, and worldviews that arise from differences of culture and circumstance.
